Launched in 1962, the original design was inspired by the Japanese Zori,sandals made of fabric straps and rice straw soles. This heritage is still honored today in the rice grain texture found on every Havaianas rubber sole. While they began as a simple, utilitarian shoe for the working class, Havaianas exploded into a global fashion staple in the 1990s. Today, the brand is a symbol of summer luxury and casual comfort, sold in over 100 countries and featuring hundreds of colors and limited-edition collaborations.

Havaianas was created by the Brazilian company Alpargatas S.A. While not founded by a single individual in the traditional sense, the brand's global expansion was spearheaded by the leadership of Alpargatas, which patented the unique rubber formula that makes the sandals durable, heat-resistant, and non-slip.
