Activewear Rebuilt from Waste

Girlfriend Collective was founded on a simple frustration: the difficulty of finding activewear that was made ethically and didn’t cost the earth to produce. The brand’s answer was to develop a way of making polyester almost entirely from recycled plastic bottles, turning what would otherwise be landfill or ocean waste into leggings, sports bras and outerwear. More than three-quarters of every collection is made from recycled materials, proving that sustainable manufacturing and genuine performance don’t have to be a trade-off.

Inclusive by Design

From its earliest collections, Girlfriend Collective has designed for the full range of real bodies rather than a narrow sample size, offering an extended size range across every style. Manufacturing takes place in SA8000-certified facilities that guarantee fair wages and safe working conditions, extending the brand’s ethics from material sourcing through to the people making each piece. It’s a model built to prove that scale, sustainability and inclusivity can all sit within the same supply chain.

Girlfriend Collective was founded by husband-and-wife duo Ellie and Quang Dinh, after Ellie’s own frustration at not being able to find women’s leggings that were made responsibly. Recognising a gap in the market for genuinely eco-friendly performance wear, the pair set out to solve the problem themselves, eventually developing a method for spinning recycled plastic bottles into high-performance polyester. What began as a search for a better pair of leggings has grown into one of the most recognised names in sustainable activewear.
