NEW TO THE CLUB: OCEANUS SWIMWEAR
Meet Hannah Attalah, the designer behind the sustainable luxurious swimwear and evening wear. Made from recycled, eco - friendly materials and embellished with hand embroidered Swarovski crystals. Eludes that vintage feel, Hannah reflects on the attitude of 80s glamour. Hannah developed a unique design - a hybrid of glamorous evening-wear and functional swimwear.
Hannah, we are most excited to have you join our club! We would love to know more about your story. What has influenced you to create Oceanus?
I was developing hand embroideries for labels and noticed that I had not seen anything exciting being created with surface textiles in the swim industry so to fill a gap in the market, Oceanus was created and I combined my love for vintage, glamour and fashion editorials. I wanted to create synchrony in swimwear and evening wear, by merging them together. The Oceanus Swimwear collections allures confidence, vintage embroidery and flattering cuts - certainly make the hottest summer statement!
There's a strong vintage glamour theme in your pieces. What inspires your designs and where do you originally seek inspiration?
My work is heavily inspired by 70's/80's and MOB wife movies such as Casino. One of my muses is Sharon Stone, wearing the iconic fashion style of the character Ginger. Her eclectic taste as a show-girl in the 1970s, and showcasing that eye-popping level of glitz.

Each designer has their own unique process for creating a collection. When it comes to designing and production, what are your main processes for creating a product?
The basis of my research is going to vintage shops/charity shops and looking for unique one-off pieces, I love diving deep and searching for hidden gems; it makes this part of the research experience more fun. We started designing our own prints and illustrations. We have an extensive production for all our fabrics we source from a mill in Italy, then developing textiles and embroidery in our factory in the Amalfi coast.
What does sustainability mean to you and why is it important to you as a Founder?
I studied fashion and business at Brighton which is the UK's most eco friendly city so it was drilled into me to consider sustainability in all aspects of the design process. We strongly take into consideration the fabrics sourced and we recycle/donate all scrap fabrics, donating to fashion students for their final year projects, so please reach out of thats you! Sustainability, ethics and social responsibility are key to any and every brand’s DNA. How does Oceanus Swimwear integrate this into the business? Econyl, is a recycled based fabric made out of fishing nets; we also reuse beads from past projects in our embroidery factory. In our office we try our best to practice being sustainable!

Finally, we’d love to hear a bit about the collections and your own personal opinion on them. Can you tell us which are your favourite items, and how can we style them this season?
Yes my favourite swimsuit so far is the Callie suit in white and it also happens to be our best seller. I also love the hand beaded Sofia dress which is a new edition this season, and the Bonnie cardigan in Pink. The vanity case and eye masks are my travel essentials. You can style the swimsuits as bodies, so I high recommend you wear them with a high waisted skirt or shorts to tie the look together and also the co-ord matching sets are perfect for poolside to party look!
