HOW TO BE THE BEST DRESSED WEDDING GUEST
By Talitha Ward
Wedding bells are ringing again – and lots of them. Some of us are armed with 18 months’ worth of online shopping and Pinterest inspo whilst the rest of us have been caught off guard. Here at LDC, we jump headfirst at any excuse to dress up and we hate wardrobe stress, so we created a roundup of our fave pieces and styling tips for the season
Wedding bells are ringing again – and lots of them. Some of us are armed with 18 months’ worth of online shopping and Pinterest inspo whilst the rest of us have been caught off guard - left frantically fumbling about in our sweatpants, digging in the back of our wardrobe for 2019’s trusty floral event dress. Here at LDC, we jump headfirst at any excuse to dress up and we hate wardrobe stress, so we created a roundup of our fave pieces and styling tips for the season. Whether you will be watching the ceremony in a chapel or on the shore of a green list island, this quick guide will help you stand out (in only the best way) for every post-Covid celebration.
ROMANTIC + UNIQUE
If fashion gets you as excited as us, events are probably your kryptonite. However, in the game of weddings there is a crucial balance that must be maintained – do you wear that showstopper gown or do you stick with your old faithful and let the bride shine? Well, we don’t think it has to be one or the other. While the lime green of the Astrid Dress by Cinta The Label may not be a typical wedding hue, we think that the soft puff sleeves, keyhole detail and tie back keep the romantic aesthetic without demanding all the evening’s attention. Pairing this one-of-a-kind piece with a more muted shoe, we love the way the Lamperti Milano Themis Blush Pink 50’s tie into the muted pistachio shade of the dress. Don’t underestimate the elevating power of a simple pair of earrings - we love the Neena Jewellery Grace Herb Earrings. They add an element of luxe and contribute to the unique aesthetic of this look – not to mention they are handmade locally in Brazil from 70% recycled gold!
CLASSIC + CONTEMPORARY
Left it super last minute or maybe you’re going as a plus one? For whatever reason sometimes the dress code just feels a little ambiguous – potentially lost in translation or clouded by nerves. In any case, you can’t go wrong with a suit. A roomy blazer has found its place as a staple in many of our wardrobes, timeless enough to look effortless yet simple enough to have endless styling possibilities. Easing into the first few weddings of the season, starting off simple is the way to go. We love the Aggi Downtown Set – the oversized fit of the Tiffany Blazer pairs seamlessly with the pleated wide leg Gwen Pants. To make a low-key statement, pair it with a simple crop like the Aggi Joy Background Black Top and accessorize with a pair of gold hoops to bring an element of elegance back into the look. Patty Rose Jewellery’s Gold Chunky Hoops are our go-to – handmade in Tuscany and the perfect addition to complete any look.
BOHO + TRENDY
Location weddings are back! Albeit held in the hands of prime ministers and health professionals… but nevertheless, they are back and we are here for it. There is not much better than a vacation and a celebration all rolled into one happy occasion. However, dressing for a beach-bound ceremony can seem like a whole ‘nother challenge all together. The Selia Richwood Black Beach Shirt and Midi Skirt are made purely from cotton in an on-trend yet classic style. A shoe is often the crux of a look and, don’t worry, sandy shores don’t mean you need to abandon your heels for flats – simply switch out your stilettos for a block heel and you’re good to go. Slip on the Lamperti Milano Langse heels for the perfect lush finish that brings this two-piece together to create an easy stylized look.
MODEST + BOLD
If there is anything we have learnt in the past 18 months, it is that comfort and simplicity were drastically undervalued in our pre-Covid wardrobes. There is no reason why you can’t bring your newfound love of a relaxed, loose fit to a formal gathering. Our new go-to is “anything and everything oversized but make it fashion.” Manimekala’s Kaathu Oversize Smock Dress is a godsend for those of us with a multi-dimensional approach to dressing. Its roomy fit and midi-length cut leave plenty of space for long-awaited hors d’oeuvres and wedding cake. Detailed with striking, contrasting sleeves and intricate layered pleating, this piece does not compromise on style or finish. To finish, pair it with black accessories to bring an aura of timelessness to the look. Personally, we would go for the Content Not Found Ultra Mini Bag and the Ganor Dominic Venus Heels for the ultimate understated statement.
