The puff sleeve may have started as a trend but it is now a style that has arguably found its place as a classic in most of our wardrobes. Reinvigorated in 2018, from an era full of retro and disco influences, the trend has stuck around to fulfil all of our voluminous dreams. We are lucky enough to have some of the most creative designers right here at LDC so if you’ve been into this trend since the 80s, or are simply dipping your toe into something new, keep reading for serious puff sleeve inspo.
The humble corset has been with us many a trend cycle, most recently revived by the infamous Bridgerton, and we are all for it! The Flo Milkmaid Midi Dress by Monika the Label brings together the corset and the classic milkmaid silhouette, incorporating all of our favourite summer trends. With a sweet, hand-drawn cherry print and a timeless cut, there is so much to love. What really sells us on this piece is the material – it is made from recycled plastic bottles! Just as sustainable as it is stylish, this piece is our go-to this summer. Pair it with the classic Silver Satine Hoops from Patty Rose Jewellery and a contemporary handbag, we love the Shokupan in Ivory from Kikiito, and you will be turning heads wherever you go.
Dreaming of a Covid-free summer has us gravitating towards all of the romantic and whimsical pieces. Ease into the puff sleeve trend with the Tenneisha White Dress by, well-loved LDC brand, Aggi. Made of lightweight cotton that is cut in a loose, mini silhouette, it is a stand-out warm weather piece. With subtly voluminous sleeves and intricate Richelieu embroidery that exude the ultimate boho aesthetic, this dress is a dreamy staycation staple. We love this paired with the Poeta Red Queen Earrings from Bocanegra and a pair of brown sandals, like the City Sandals in Espresso from Essen for a stylized, free-spirited look.
There is no denying that the mini dress and the puff sleeve are an iconic duo. Perfect for date nights, brunch with the girls or easy everyday wear, a mini is always a safe bet. The Danielle Mixed Print Dress by Monika the Label is a showstopper piece for the warmer seasons. The flawless leopard and floral pattern clash is the undeniable feature point of this piece. The cherry on top of this perfectly aesthetic piece is the fact that it was designed and produced with people and the planet in mind. For a sustainable knock-out look, accessorise with the Sheep Fur Tote from MWYW and the Bella Chunky Rectangular Gold Earrings from Amadeus.
Effortless dressing is the name of the game this summer. There is nothing better than throwing on a piece that does all the work for you. The Clara Oversized Cotton Dress by Guardi is a contemporary piece that perfectly juxtaposes the classic puff sleeve with a modern silhouette. With a subtle v-neck, midi length and puffed sleeves, this dress makes a soft statement that easily pairs up or down. Best of all, it is made in Europe in Guardi’s own family-run ethical factory. We love it dressed with a pair of chunky sandals, like the Escher Crosshatch Sandals from Tracey Neuls, and a subtle statement bag, like the Noa Organic Bag from Dedais.
