Embrace your Frugality
By Allana Allen, LDC Brand Curator
An LDC Guide to Sustainable Dressing.
Within the Fashion Industry, waste has been a major issue for many years, which is why here at LDC we want to encourage our brands to embrace their frugality by spotlighting some of our favourite upcycled and recycled pieces that you can wear everyday.
Upcycling is a process in which used materials or objects at the end of their lifespan are converted into something of higher value and/or quality in their second life. This has been increasingly recognised as one of the most promising ways to reduce material waste and embrace sustainable production and consumption. Although the term may be new to some, the practise has existed for thousands of years as a personal way of transforming waste or used possessions into higher value/quality objects, and it is something that our designers are incorporating into their own collections.
SPORTY SPICE
If you’re looking for some sustainable comfy alternatives to your favourite loungewear pieces, why not try our Dakota High-rise Leggings from Veronika Guardi; made from 78% recycled materials these are the perfect pair of leggings for anything from running errands to a relaxing yoga session. Complete this look with the Estelle Racer Sports Bra and layer up with Talia Crop Top to channel your inner sustainable ‘Sporty Spice’. You can even throw on a Hoh Pabissi Paddington Coat made from recycled jeans for those cooler evenings.
SMART CASUAL
The way we work has definitely changed, and with that comes our work attire. What do we wear to a zoom call? If you’re going for a smart on top casual on the bottom look, why not pair our Joao Marashin Jacket in recycled Denim with some Upcycled Jeans from Fanfare to perfect that smart casual look. Or, if you’re lucky enough to be heading back into the office soon, pair our Joao Maraschin Jacket with the Black Trousers in Recycled Denim for something sleek and effortless; you could even swap the Jacket for our Black Velvet Wrap Top from Edward Mongzar, made partly from upcycled marble dyed fabric from previous collections to give your co-workers something to envy on the first day back.
PARTY DRESSING
If you’ve got a big occasion coming up, whether it’s a birthday, anniversary or wedding; you’ll want to make a sustainable statement, and here at LDC we’ve got exactly what you’ll need. It’s often said that every woman needs the perfect Black dress, so why not pair our Dazed Dress by Georgia Hardinge with some recycled Silver Jewellery from Contour and you’ll be the best dressed at any party. Or, if you’re looking for a pop of colour, pair our Leap of Faith Dress by Bedouin Studios with your favourite pair of sling-backs and you’ll be tuning heads this spring.
