THE AUTUMN WARDROBE EDIT
By Amy Devon
Delve into Lone Design Club’s autumnal fashion edit; coats, knits, bottoms and accessories for your winter wardrobe that will make seasonal styling on a dark winter morning the best part of your day.
And just like that, it’s October. As years go 2021 seems to of been one of the fastest yet, maybe compared to the slow days of lockdown, the fast pace of ‘normal’ life has side-lined us slightly. As we enter into the last 3 months of the year, clocks go back and BBQ smoke is quickly traded for bonfire, it is easy to start reminiscing about summer and how we wished it had lasted, but it’s not all bad. With the flurry of autumn leaves comes autumnal fashion; earthy colour palettes, cosy textures and traditional prints- seasonal trends that make the temperature change and chapped lips seem a little more worthwhile.

THE COAT
The biggest contrast between summer and winter styling comes down to the layers, the necessity to keep warm sometimes outweighing the need to look good - but why shouldn’t you do both? On the 2021 runways, outerwear had its moment- striking prints, bold colours and exaggerated silhouettes transformed the humble coat from a practical piece covering up your outfit, to the main event.
The Tilda Coat by Aggi offers a structured and wearable cut, its minimalist aesthetic is met with a maxi length and immaculate tailoring giving off an undoubtably luxe look. Ideal for layering with a smart ensemble for work, or layering with relaxed fits for a contemporary feel. We suggest juxtaposing the traditional wool texture with a modern print, like the monochromatic gingham on the Lexi trousers- also by Aggi. Lift the whole look by adding in a pop of colour, here we have chosen the Liza bag by BOTTLETOP - the bold orange not only warms up and compliments the overall aesthetic, but by adding in another unique texture, it offers a fashion-forward take on seasonal styling.
THE KNIT
You simply can’t think about entering the colder months without some trusty knitwear to see you through. Layer it, wear it alone, for the day time for the evening - there is no end to the cost per wear a good knit can have.
Keep it simple with the top trend of 2021- the sweater vest. We love the simplicity of the Cosima Knit by Cinta the Label; A timeless off-white hue can be styled for any occasion, perfect to layer with a turtle neck or shirt underneath. Contrast the cosy texture and edge it up by pairing with leather, specifically the Nora Cynical Black Pants by Aggi; Their fit and flare cut is not only flattering but timeless, meaning they will stay a staple in your wardrobe for years to come. Compliment the classic aesthetic of sweater vest with an upgraded take on a brogue, the Pablo Esquire’s by Tracey Neuls to be precise, they have a unique tartan effect that adds a welcome pop of print.
THE BOOT
After a winter lockdown last year, we are looking forward to swapping our walking boots for a pair with a little more style. With a lot of options out there, you need a pair that is versatile enough to do it all, to prevent a boot build up in the back of your wardrobe. Opt for timeless shapes and transitional colour palettes that will allow boots that are made for walking time after time.
The Judd Paprika boot by Tracey Neuls is definitely a statement, but this pair are more versatile than they first appear. Their fiery red hue is ideal to spice up any winter look, still warm enough to contribute to an earthy colour palette but bold enough to inject some fun into your winter styling. Their smart rounded toe and unique heel create a contemporary feel that is perfect for work or play. Pair with an equally modern fit, like the Zip Up Jumpsuit by The Transparent Machine, the charcoal tone lets the boots do the talking and the all-in-one nature offers an effortless feel. Continue the modern mood with the Frida Hammered earrings by M.Sahlberg- an artistic take on a drop down style that will become a go-to in your jewellery collection.
THE SKIRT
As we leave the flowing fabrics and florals behind, we forget that skirts can be bought with us into the colder months. Swapping summer chiffon and silk for heavier fabrics allows them to look just as at home styled with knits and boots- we will leave it up to you whether or not you brave bare legs.
The Chiara Malaga wine skirt by Aggi is a perfect example of a winter skirt done right. Its rich burgundy hue is ideal for transitioning through the season, warm enough to be paired with other earthy tones or black and white. The heavy vegan leather texture feels suitable for the colder weather, made contemporary by its top stitching and cross over waistband. We have matched the high waisted skirt with the Flow Baby Alpaca Cardigan by Graciela Huam; the cropped nature of the cardigan to shows off the detail of the waistband whilst the cosy alpaca knit contrasts with the flat sheen of the leather look skirt. This look is elevated further by the Cushy bag by The Transparent Machine, a futuristic style with a unique aesthetic compliments the fun detail in the cardigan and ties together the overall modern feel.
THE SHIRT
A staple shirt is essential for autumnal style; To layer under jumpers, sweaters and blazers, to be worn with denim, leather, or cord- its possibilities are pretty much endless in terms of how you can wear it and where you can wear it to. Invest in a shirt that will accompany any ensemble and remain a favourite in your wardrobe no matter what the season.
The Oversized Black Shirt by Z.G.Est creates a high fashion silhouette with its transformable collar, balloon sleeves and oversized cut. We know that this isn’t necessarily traditional, but it is simple enough that the elevated features will never go out of style. The neckerchief collar gives this piece its star quality, wear it down for a relaxed feel or tie it for a more dramatic look. We have kept this look streamline by pairing with the equally as chic Adelaide Pants by Marine Henrion, a form fitting pair with lace up details that match perfectly with the subtle drama of the shirt.
