PLEATS PLEASE: A CLASSIC TREND FOR THE NEW SEASON
By Talitha Ward
Box pleats, knife pleats, accordion pleats – we love them all! Issey Miyake may arguably be the master of this trend, but our LDC brands are innovators of their own with these unique and luxurious pieces.
Fashion enthusiasts have an endless love affair with pleats and we are in full agreement. Pleats create a stylised look that instantly makes an outfit look luxe. It’s a simple way to elevate a look with an endless array of options; box pleats, knife pleats, accordion pleats – we love them all! Issey Miyake may arguably be the master of this trend, but our LDC brands are innovators of their own with these unique and luxurious pieces.
SUBTLE
Neutral hues paired with timeless silhouettes are a simple way to incorporate pleated pieces into your wardrobe. We love the Linda Muslin Blouse from Aggi for a more laid-back approach to the plisse trend. The chiffon fabric is soft and breathable with an adjustable sash to make it completely customisable to your style, paired with the voluminous, pleated sleeves you can’t go wrong. Slip on a pair of open toed sandals like the Nicola pair by Annie & Lori and a wide leg trouser – the Tailored Trousers from Darin Hachem are our fave – for an effortless, luxe look.
PLEATS ON PLEATS
We get it, we can’t get enough of a pleat either – sometimes more really is more. The Elixir Top by Georgia Hardinge is one of a kind – made from velvet and crafted with a bespoke pleating technique, it’s perfectly finished with a gathered cut out detail. If you’re feeling a more toned-down look, pair this top with your favourite jeans and go-to heels for an instantly stylised look. Ready to go all in? Pair with Aggi’s pleated Elvira Skirt for a head-to-toe plisse number and finish the look with the Shokupan Mini Bag from Kikiito for a look that’s sure to turn heads this spring.
BOLD
Freedom is finally upon us and a rapidly filling social calendar is the perfect excuse to pull out a striking look. The Dazed Dress by Georgia Hardinge is crafted from recycled polyester in Hardinge’s signature sunray pleating technique. The immaculate attention to detail makes this dress one of our faves, finished with an asymmetrical draped hemline and gathered detailing for extra flair. Pair this showstopper dress with a set of simple gold jewellery like Patty Rose’s No.11 Necklace and Pyla’s Irene Earrings for the perfect, out on the town look.
PATTERNED PLISSE
For the seasoned pleat enthusiast or for those of us who love mixing and matching styles and fabrics, pleats alone are sometimes not enough. Inspired by modern art and geometric colour blocking, Judy Wu’s Sunray Skirt is the embodiment of abstract expression. Crafted from a silk crepe fabric, it combines both pleated and printed material for a truly bold and artistic look. Let the skirt be the star of the show with a white tee, like Asmuss’ Panelled T-Shirt, and a pair of metallic boots (we love the Lou Cuir Irisé Argent boots by Pete Sorensen) or style it down with a pair of Trash Planet chunky trainers for a fun, off-duty look.
