A Few Ways to Uplift Your Lockdown Routine
By Phoebe J Carney, Contributor
Lockdown, lockdown, lockdown. Will we ever see the end of it? Our lives have been upturned, thrown around and still remain to be placed safely back down into what we know and want, but there are ALWAYS ways to find excitement and creativity.
This year has seen an inspiring amount of people embracing the artist within themselves and thinking of innovative ways to make and create at home. From cooking to sewing, singing and motivational videos, the world has not failed to come together and provide support for each other – and this is something that should continue regardless of COVID restrictions. Keeping yourself and others entertained can be testing at times, but thrilling when you find the right thing to do! So treat your friends and family (or just yourself!) to a little lockdown treat, whether it be getting creative online or cosying up with new home-wears, LDC has got the experience or the accessory for you.
Here at LDC we offer digital workshops that teach us how to create a selection of home and personal comforts, which will undoubtedly bring a little light into our lives. They are the perfect experience to feel connected to our loved ones if they are miles away, jump on zoom and give the gift of getting creative; or simply keep the whole thing for yourself! Looking to fill your home with a little cosiness and your own personalised scent? What's better than relaxing in the evening by lighting a candle - perhaps when you've made it yourself. Join ELM RD founder Miguel Ángel in a downloadable online tutorial as he guides us through the process of how to make one of his vegan hand-poured candles. Choose from a collection of warm and botanical scents, including jasmine, chamomile, sandlewood and mandarin, and get your full candle-making kit consisting of a beautiful glass container and all your mixing essentials. The wax is made entirely of rapeseed and soy, so is 100% natural and guaranteed to smell delicious. Learn the properties and importance of sustainable ingredients while enjoying the therapeutic action of pouring hot, smooth wax into an ornament you can savour.
Another way to get creative and start accumulating a collection of funky hair accessories to liven your daily zoom call is with the SABINNA Beaded Flower Hair Piece, KIM DAVE Statement Scrunchie and AGNES Knotted Headband tutorials. Both the scrunchie and headband kits come exclusively with dead stock or upcycled fabric, ensuring no waste and highlighting just how easy it is to make use of all the clothes you threw out in the obligatory wardrobe clear-out that occurred during lockdown. As these fabrics are not made specifically for this purpose, there is no guarantee of what fabric you will get; so choose a base colour and we’ll do our best to match this. Although, the surprise is half the fun!
Now, once you have your homemade candle flickering cosily and your hair is swept back with a crafty headband, it’s time to spice up your most relaxing room with a BIANCA ELGAR lampshade. These lampshades are screen printed by hand and made from unbleached cotton, giving them an authentic and original style. We're all spending far more time at home so it's time to invest in your homewares. With a selection of bold colours and designs shift the direction of light as it shines through, giving it an abstract effect. They are designed to be popped into empty bottles, so save your favourite Prosecco and get recycling in your very own home.
All the banana bread we have consumed, tops we’ve attempted to crochet and plays we’ve eagerly watched have lifted our spirits when times have been low, so let’s carry on filling the house with crafty goods and inspire others to do the same!
